Week One (??) will comprise of a basic introduction to OSX looking at what is where, how to find your way around, where you should put stuff and how to set up your mac to work to its (and yours) best advantage and how to set up and control printers. This will be starting at a very basic level and will not be all new to those of you who are already using OSX however we are sure you will find new tips and tricks as we go through the procedures.

Week Two (??) will comprise of a more in depth look at the features of OS 10.4 highlighting the improvements that Tiger has made on 10.3 Panther. We will be covering amongst other things. Expose, Spotlight, iChat AV, File Vault, Fast user switching, Preview, Sherlock, Faxing. We will also continue with any topics not fully covered in week one.

Week Three (??) This will be a look at the Internet and how your mac works with it. We will give you an idea of how the Internet works and the differences between broadband and dialup connections. How to set up your mac to connect, getting the best from your web browser and how to use the best web browser for the job looking at Safari, Explorer, and Firefox. What you can do with Sherlock, How to use search engines, How to use email with Mail and Entourage. How to set up email accounts and how to use mail rules to sort and control your mail.

Week Four (??) Welcome to your iLife. We take a general look at Apple’s amazing iApplications. iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, with short demos of what they can do and how easy they are to use.

Week Five (?? - iPod, iTunes), Six (?? - iPhoto), Seven and Eight (?? iMovie, ?? iDVD) Each of these weeks will be dedicated to an in Depth tutorial in an individual iLife Application starting with iTunes and iPod with full explanation of MP3, AAC and Apple lossless music formats. How to use Apple’s iTunes music store and how to burn music to disc. Next iPhoto and how to manage your digital pictures including. A general overview of digital photography and what to look for in a camera and how to get the best from your digital camera. Finally a look at iMovie and iDVD. This will be two sessions and will give you a good grounding in Video editing and producing a dvd to playback your movie. We will show you how to create some simple special effects and how to create a DVD slide show from your pictures.

Week Nine (??) Basic Photoshop for beginners. We will explain how to use Adobe’s premier photo editing software at a basic level for digital photographers with how to enhance and edit your pictures, how to cut areas out and change backgrounds. How to scan into photoshop and a good talk on understanding scanning. We will also explain about the different types of image files and when you should use them and how to optimise a photo for emailing.

| Week Ten (??) Web design with Adobe GoLive and Apple iWeb, how to create graphics for the web and how to make them fit together, then how to use FTP to upload them for the world to see. | |

Week Eleven (??) Wireless World and multi media.. What is wireless networking all about? What on earth is Bluetooth and do you need a dentist? A full explanation of what you can do with a network both wireless and cabled and how to do it. How to synchronise calendars and address books and phones using bluetooth, iSync and .Mac. How to use your Mac as TV and record freeview, how to encode for the your video iPods.

The above schedule is to give a guide to how we will try to work. We will however be learning at the rate of our students so it will be subject to change as the course develops and may be extended if necessary.
